The company said that the "eco-friendlier" packaging that it is rolling into its consumer networking products reduces waste material by 40% and uses paper with 80% recycled content and vegetable and soy inks. The cost of using the new materials is "about the same" as the previous methods.
The new packaging will be available this month first appearing in the WRT310N, WRT160N, WRT610N, WRT110 and WRT54GS wireless routers.
Linksys also said that it has received ENERGY STAR certified ratings on power adapters included with "more than thirty" of its products. The energy consumed by power adapters has been cut "almost in half", from 4.6 W to 2.6 W in one router example cited.
