MetaGeek Adds 900 MHz Spectrum Analyzer

The Wi-Spy 900x displays all radio activity from devices operating in the 900 MHz ISM band including RFID tags, cordless phones, sensor networks and automation devices. Its Chanalyzer 3.3 software graphically displays real-time radio data and also records it for offline analysis.

Featuring an external RP-SMA antenna, Wi-Spy 900x scans from 862 MHz to 928 MHz with a resolution range of 24 to 750 KHz and a bandwidth resolution range of 54 to 600 KHz. The analyzer can detect signals in the amplitude range of -105 dBm to -6.5 dBm, with an amplitude resolution of 0.5 dBm.

Atheros launches 802.11g PCI Express chip

Atheros Communications today announced the Atheros AR5007EG - a 802.11g PCI Express (PCIe) device that includes both low noise amplifier (LNA) and power amplifier (PA), in a low-cost, single-chip digital CMOS design.

The device is targeted at lowering the cost of adding 802.11b/g wireless connectivity to both notebook and desktop PCs. Its advantages include a 50 percent reduction in the printed circuit board cost and 25 percent reduction in rest of bill-of-materials (RBOM) component count over previous generation board designs.
