Microsoft has officially removed its controversial Drive Extender technology from the upcoming release of Windows Home Server 2011.
There are multiple reports that the Release Candidates (RC) test builds of "Vail", i.e.Windows Home Server 2011 and Aurora, Small Business Server 2011 Essentials do not contain the Drive Extender feature.
Daily Tech says a Move Folder Wizard has been instead added to WHS that detects when hard drives are connected, and guides users through the drive installation process. Daily Tech also reports that Shadow Copy has been added back, but has a 2 TB partition limit.
Drive Extender was one of WHS’ most attractive features, allowing users to easily expand storage without hassling with long RAID resyncs or volume configurations.
There’s more background in this report from last December.
