WD has added more powerful members to its My Cloud NAS family
The My Cloud EX2100 and EX4100 join the My Cloud EX2 and EX4 in the "Expert Series" targeted at prosumers and "creative professionals". Both are powered by Marvell dual-core CPUs, with the two-bay EX2100 getting an ARMADA 385 1.3 GHz processor and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and the four-bay EX4100 powered by an ARMADA 388 1.6 GHz CPU with 2 GB of RAM.
Both models have dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual power ports that support auto-failover should one external power brick fail. The EX2100 has two USB 3.0 ports and the EX4100 has three, with the front port on both supporting "one touch" backup.
WD My Cloud EX and DL Series NASes
The two bay DL2100 and four bay DL4100 launch a new My Cloud Business series with more powerful dual-core 1.7 GHz Atom processors; a C2350 for the DL2100 and C2338 for the DL4100. The two-bay gets 1 GB of DDR3 RAM (expandable to 5 GB total) and the four-bay starts with 2 GB and can be expanded to 6 GB total.
Both Business series models have dual Gigabit Ethernet and power ports and come with two USB 3.0 ports. The DL4100 also gets a rear-mounted USB 2.0 port.
WD My Cloud EX and DL Series NAS features
Both Expert and Business My Clouds run WD’s My Cloud OS that supports a robust feature set for both personal and business applications. Features include JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 volumes (depending on number of bays) with optional AES 256 encryption, iSCSI targets, IPv6, SMB, NFS and AFP network filesystems, backup to attached drives, other My Cloud NASes and DLNA / UPnP media servers. iSCSI initiator is also supported for scaling to larger storage systems.
Windows client backup is supported via the bundled WD SmartWare Pro app and Mac OS clients can be backed up via Time Machine. Installable third part apps are also available for WordPress, phpMyAdmin, Transmission and more.
