Synology is previewing its new NAS OS at CES 2014.
DSM 5.0 is said to have a streamlined new interface and an easier installation process called QuickConnect.
QuickConnect only requires a user ID to be set up. Then as soon as a volume is created, it can be accessed remotely via browser or iOS, Android, and Windows Phone apps with no router configuration required.
Synology’s private cloud Cloud Station service adds syncing among multiple Synology NASes and the Package Center add-in app manager now supports automatic updates and improved application badges supporting push notification display.
Other DSM 5.0 features include:
Hybrid Cloud Syncing, with Google Drive and Dropbox
Facebook & Google+ sharing of files and folders
YouTube uploading straight from PhotoStation
Customizable status widgets
4K capable interface with touch input, for the next generation in display technology
Scale out Storage Cluster enabling businesses to expand from TBs to PBs
Central Management System with unified monitoring, remote administration, and policy based configuration
Robust data protection including snapshot manager and more
The DSM 5.0 public beta will be rolling out over the next few weeks.
