Hitachi has announced a new line of external hard drives with cloud storage features.

Hitachi Global Storage, recently acquired by Western Digital, is looking to get into personal cloud storage by providing a cloud backup solution with its new Pro line of Touro hard drives. The new line augments the already existing Touro line up with a number of new features.

The Touro Pros come with USB 3.0, as well as backup software and 2 year warranties, over the 1 year warranty in the regular Touro’s. The cloud backup feature comes with 3 GB of storage for free, and for $49 a year, it can be upgraded to 250 GB. The cloud provider is not detailed in Hitachi’s announcement but they are likely reselling someone else’s storage.

The Touro Pro Desktop will ship in June with 1 TB, 2 TB, and 3 TB capacities. The Touro Pro Mobile line is available now with 500 GB and 750 GB. Hitachi’s release claims to be offering free iPhones and iPads when you sign up for a year of cloud backup, but nothing is detailed on the website. However, feel free to check out the official site for comparing the Pros against the regular Touro lineup.
