Promise Releases New Four-Bay Intel-based NAS

The SmartStor NS4600 supports up to four 1.5 TB 3.5" SATA drives configurable in RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 volumes. The NS4600 uses Intel’s EP80579 Processor running at 600 MHZ and includes 256MB of DDRII Memory, 1 Gigabit Ethernet, 2 USB 2.0 and 1 eSATA Port. Promise says the NAS will provide mid-30 MB/s writes and mid-40 MB/s reads while consuming only 51 W of power under full load.

Other features include Active Directory Integration, support for Apple Bonjour and Time Machine, Download Station, File Sharing over Internet, Hot-plug, NAS to NAS Replication, One Click Configuration, One Touch Backup, Snapshot, True Hot-Swap, Scheduled Backup, User Quota Management, Wake-on-LAN and Web Server. Supported network file protocols include AFP, CIFS/SMB and NFS.

The UPnP AV / DLNA-certified media server supports Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox360 and other DLNA-certified devices. A built-in iTunes server supports both audio and video playback and the Remote Access Media Center allows media playback via any device with a web browser.

The SmartStor NS4600 will be available in early next month at an MSRP of $499.
