SonicWALL extends UTM line

SonicWALL last week introduced three new additions to its line of UTM/Firewall/VPN appliances.

The TZ 180 delivers gateway UTM scanning at twice the speed of SonicWALL's TZ 170. A new Security Dashboard provides a real-time snapshot of the number and type of security threats blocked by SonicWALL's threat prevention technology worldwide, as well as the threats blocked by the user's appliance. The TZ 180 Wireless adds wireless LAN capability with WPA2 support to the TZ 180's base feature set.

SonicWALL updates SSL-VPNs

SonicWALL announced today that it has expanded the capabilities of its SSL-VPN series with new industry certifications and feature enhancements.

SonicWALL Firmware Version 2.1 for its SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000 appliances adds drag-and-drop functionality in the new Java version of the file shares applet. This new firmware version also provides LDAP authentication capabilities for multiple organizational units, and offers access control based on both existing Active Directory group and RADIUS group memberships.

ZyXEL adds SSL VPN Appliance, 3G router

ZyXEL today added an SSL gateway and mobile broadband router to its ZyWALL security product line.

The ZyWALL SSL-10 is an integrated SSL-VPN and Firewall appliance supporting 10 sessions in its base configuration and upgradeable to 25 sessions. Users have access to shared network resources through a single web page with user rights defined by login ID.

The product provides a customizable web portal that users can access through a standard Web browser to easily and securely access e-mail, applications, web servers and other resources on the remote network.

CRYPTOCard adds Managed Authentication Service

Authentication technology developer CRYPTOCard yesterday announced the introduction of its CRYPTO-MAS Managed Authentication Service.

CRYPTO-MAS is a Managed Authentication Service that protects companies and their employees against shoulder surfing, social engineering, and other forms of password theft by using token-based two-factor authentication in combination with a Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). The service uses CRYPTOCard’s authentication technology, which is deployed by "major organizations" in over 70 countries.

New Windows exploit could disable firewall

Security researchers have discovered a new Windows flaw that could allow hackers to crash the built-in firewall. By sending malformed DNS packets to vulnerable machines, hackers could disable and eventually bypass the operating system firewall. So far only Windows XP computers with the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service turned on are affected by the attack.

Metasploit tool going wireless

Jon "Johnny Cache" Ellch and other computer security researchers are adding wireless exploit tools into the upcoming version 3.0 of the Metasploit penetration testing toolkit. The tools will allow hackers to inject raw packets into wireless streams and potentially crash or takeover systems.

Eeye Digital Security today announced a free version of its Blink computer security software for personal use. The application gives users protection against identity theft, worms, trojans, and other possible hacks, in an "unobtrusive, integrated and deeply-layered" agent, the first of its kind to be offered for free, said Eeye.

F-Secure announces new protection against Zero-Day exploits

F-Secure has announced a new version of the Internet Security protection suite that promises to protect against Zero-Day exploits. Internet Security 2007 will have so-called "DeepGuard" technology that analyzes newly installed programs and stops them if anything suspicious is found. The company claims the new system is more proactive and can stop previously unknown threats.
