EMC’s RSA Security division said that information about its two-factor security technology has been stolen in a security breach.
The heart of the letter from RSA’s Executive Chairman, Art Coviello posted yesterday said that information related to RSA’s SecurID two-factor authentication products had been "extracted".
The letter further said that "we are confident that the information extracted does not enable a successful direct attack on any of our RSA SecurID customers" but that "this information could potentially be used to reduce the effectiveness of a current two-factor authentication implementation as part of a broader attack".
There is much speculation about the implications of the breach. But RSA has not been responding to requests for further comment as yet.
