Cisco is reported to be readying a consumer version of its business videoconferencing systems.
Reuters on Monday reported that an upcoming October 6 announcement would unveil a "major, new consumer product". Based on a conversation in May with a Cisco senior executive, the news service speculated that a consumer version of Cisco’s TelePresence systems could cost around $500.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that Cisco "is" preparing a consumer video-conferencing system, priced at $600 with a $30 monthly subscription fee. And Kara Swisher of All Things Digital speculated that the system "might" be launched with Comcast and Verizon, which could bring a subsidized price as low as $200.
All will be revealed by Cisco at the October 6 news conference.
