Atheros sampling 10/100 switch chip
Atheros today announced that it is sampling a low-cost six port 10/100 Ethernet switch chip to key customers.
The company said the AR8216 will allow it to provide networking customers with "all of the major silicon required for complete wire-to-wireless router solutions". Atheros chose to produce a 10/100 switch instead of a gigabit Ethernet version because it believes that is where the volume will be in the near term.
Belkin settles wireless class action suit
Belkin has settled a class action lawsuit that claimed some of the company's wireless LAN products did not meet advertised speed and range claims.
The lawsuit (Shannahoff v. Belkin Corporation) claimed that Belkin made and sold select models of its wireless LAN products that did not achieve advertised transmission rates and connectivity range under alleged “real-world” operating conditions.
The 37 products covered in the settlement include Belkin's 802.11g, "Pre-N", and Wireless G Plus MIMO products. Belkin's "N1" draft 11n products are not included in the suit or settlement.
Buffalo adds 11n / 11g wireless routers, ‘hi gain’ 11g USB adapters
Buffalo Technology today announced the addition of two new wireless routers and two extended range 11g USB adapters to its wireless product lineup.
The WZR2-G300N AirStation Wireless-N Nfiniti Router replaces the WZR-G300N AirStation Nfiniti Router. The single-band 2.4 GHz router is equipped with three external antennas, built-in DHCP server and 4- port 10/100 Auto-Sensing switch.It also supports a Nintendo DS Wi-Fi connection and Buffalo's AOSS automatic wireless security system.
The WHR-G125 AirStation Wireless-G High Speed Router replaces the WHR-G54S. Features include AOSS support, 4-port 10/100 switch and hardware switching from router to bridge mode.
Both routers have a NAT+SPI firewall and programmable transmit power. Security features include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2), Buffalo's Privacy Separator and 128/64-bit WEP.

Atheros announces next-gen 11g SoC
Atheros today announced what it claims is the most "highly-integrated, cost-effective 802.11g solution" for home gateways. The AR2417 is the newest member of the company's seventh-generation AR5007 family and is a low cost, single-chip solution for mini-PCI and cardbus based designs. The device is currently in volume production.

Ekahau Announces Two-Way Wi-Fi Location Tracking Badge
Ekahau today announced that it is developing a Wi-Fi-enabled badge designed to support new location tracking and communications applications on enterprise campuses.
The company said that is T301-B tag will be the industry's first tag that combines location capabilities with a display that supports wireless text messaging and enables users to acknowledge messages by using the tag's two integrated call buttons. The tag will incorporate audible alarm signals, multicolored LEDs and an optional display to provide the messaging capabilities. It also will have an integrated pull strap alarm that enables the user to call for immediate assistance.
